Dental implants are an exciting option for patients with missing teeth. Studies show that dental implants have a 35% higher success rate when compared to traditional fixed bridgework or dentures.
Dental Implant vs. Bridge vs. Denture
All three of these restorations replace missing teeth. Dental implants, however, are the only solution that replaces the actual root structure of a tooth. This means that the prosthetic tooth (or teeth) is permanently fixed in the mouth and does not require any support from neighboring teeth or use of adhesives.
For denture wearers, dental implants can minimize speech impediments often associated with loose or ill-fitting dentures. The dental implants will also allow you to eat more foods and chew much more efficiently so you can live your life without concern over what foods you can and cannot eat.
About the Dental Implant Procedure
Dr. Moses offers several options for dental implants in Virginia Beach. In many cases, he will be able to surgically place the dental implant in our Virginia Beach dentist office. In other cases, Dr. Moses may work with a local oral surgeon or periodontist to coordinate the surgical phase of treatment. Dr. Moses will complete the dental implant procedure by placing the final restoration of either a dental crown, partial or full denture in our Virginia Beach office.
What to Expect
If a tooth extraction is needed, that will be performed first and then the dental implant will be surgically placed in the jawbone. The implant is a small post made of titanium that will fuse with the living bone as it heals, forming a solid structure for the replacement tooth.
In some cases, Dr. Moses may be able to immediately replace the dental implant with a dental crown, a dental bridge or denture. In other instances, a temporary restoration will be placed while the implant heals and integrates with the bone.
It typically takes 3 to 6 months for the implant to fully fuse with the jawbone. The final restoration will be attached to the dental implant for a permanent restoration.
How much do dental implants cost?
The cost of dental implants varies based on the condition of the individual patient. Things to consider include bone health, condition of neighboring teeth and number of dental implants to be placed.
