For Dental Patients in Virginia Beach, Virginia

Your First Dental Visit

On or before your first visit, please provide us with:

  • A valid form of identification
  • Recent x-rays and dental records
  • Dental insurance card or information

When you visit our office, we provide dental cleaning, screening, and examination. We will also take dental x-rays as needed. Our x-rays can take detailed photos of your teeth, gums, jaw, and nerves. With x-rays, we can discover new dental problems and create custom-made treatment plans. We also screen patients for problems like oral cancer, which has a high rate of survival.

Signs of oral cancer that we look for include:

  • Bleeding sores
  • Difficulty in chewing or swallowing
  • Tongue numbness
  • Ear pain
  • Red or white patches

Our team will examine your lymph nodes and your throat, tongue, and other mouth parts. Additionally, we will screen for gum disease or periodontitis.

Symptoms of gum disease may include:

  • Red or purple gums
  • Bleeding gums
  • Gum recession
  • Loose teeth

Oral cancer and gum disease are common yet complex oral health problems that worsen over time. Regular dental visits allow our dentists to find signs of these oral health issues early to stop further damage to the teeth and gums.

New Patient FAQs

Read the answers to popular questions our patients have about our office and their care:

Is your office accepting new patients?

Yes, Coastal General Dentistry accepts new patients. If you would like to make an appointment, please call 757-216-9914. You may also request a dental consultation with our dentists on our website.

Do you accept insurance?

We accept dental insurance and payment plans. Our team will work with you to determine which services are covered by insurance. We also accept CareCredit, which allows patients to pay in installments.

How often should I visit the dentist?

We recommend that our patients visit our office biannually or twice a year. Routine dental cleanings help prevent plaque and tartar buildup in the mouth. Plaque is a bacterial film that forms tartar when hardened. It is difficult for patients to remove tartar on their own. Because of this, we encourage patients to visit for dental cleaning treatment.

Do you offer family dental care?

Yes, we offer family dental treatment in our Virginia Beach office. Our pediatric dental care helps create a healthy foundation for our younger patients. At routine visits, we offer fluoride treatment and sealants for children. In addition, we can offer extractions, root canal treatment, or fillings for older patients to prevent a variety of dental problems.

What do I do if I have tooth pain or sensitivity?

There are multiple causes of toothaches or sensitivity. Patients with worn or eroded teeth may experience more sensitivity. Additionally, patients may have tooth decay or a dental infection. Patients may also have a sensitivity to hydrogen peroxide in their toothpaste. Please contact our office if you have chronic or sudden pain. We will create a treatment based on your symptoms and current dental needs.
